Summer
Summer Solstice Walk/Run:
Our annual 5K run and 2 mile walk begins and ends at the Recreation Center. The challenging course takes you along the Knife River Trail, and through the townsite. Awards for many age categories, along with all participants receive a great sun-design T-shirt. Event takes place the Saturday following Grandma's marathon, which is close to Summer Solstice.
Youth Tennis Instruction:
Summertime tennis lessons available Youth USA Tennis 1-2-3 instruction for children in summer.
Tennis Tuesdays:
Adults only tennis with some informal instruction available.
Tennis-open hours:
Knife River Recreation Center has a wonderful regulation size tennis court located at Peterson Park. The tennis court is well maintained and lit for night-time play. First come, first serve.
Summer Crafts and Recreation for Children:
Children to have the opportunity to have creative fun. The Summer recreation program includes: supervised craft projects, recreation and outdoor games and snacks. The program is offered to children ages 4-12.
All-comer's Sports Night:
Every Monday and Wednesday night in the summer, come on down to the Recreation Center after supper for games and fun for all ages. Depending on the ages and abilities, the group will play soccer, softball, basketball, kick-ball and more. Supervised activities for the children. Watch for specific dates and times.
Peterson Park:
Our park is located next to the tennis court. The park has new playground equipment, swings, picnic tables and shady trees. Come to play and relax.
Fall
Halloween Party:
Halloween starts early in Knife River with an afternoon Halloween Party at the Recreation Center. Games, light supper and treats to send you off trick or treating.
Haunted Hayride:
What started as a small community Halloween hayride has grown to a full-blown Halloween extravaganza of witches, ghouls and many surprises on a 1 mile ride on haywagons. Knife River transforms into Haunted Hollow. The rides start at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come early! In recent years over 600 people have enjoyed the refreshments and entertainment presented by over 100 volunteers from the Knife River Community. This is the largest fundraiser for the KRRC.
Winter
A Country Christmas on the North Shore
Watch for information on this tour of specially selected Knife River Community homes distinctly decorated for the holiday season.
Ice skating:
Join community members for winter fun on our ice rink. Weather permitting, the ice is ready in December for family skating, pick-up hockey games and boot hockey on Saturday nights. Volunteers flood and maintain the rink. The Recreation Center is open for warming up and changing into your skates.
